Sugar Shane Mosley refused to categorically say whether it’s over for him as far as boxing is concerned despite calls for him to finally retire for failing the expectations of many in his welterweight championship bout against Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.
“I will still think about," said Mosley, 39, when asked of his possible retirement from the ring during the post-fight conference at the MGM Grand.
The four-time world champion in three weight divisions absorbed a severe beating from the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter, losing by a lopsided unanimous decision in a bout where he only won two rounds in two of the judges’ scorecards.
Sporting welts below both his eyes, Mosley said he’d rather take a rest at the moment and think about his career later.
“I want to have vacation, relaxation, enjoy the fruits of my labor," added Mosley, now 46-7-1, with 39 Kos.
Mosley indeed, deserved it after getting pounded by the pound-for-pound king, whom he said “has speed and power that I have never felt before."
The challenger has kept his record of not being knocked out in his entire 18-year pro career, but was sent by a vicious left straight of Pacquiao to the canvas in the third canto of their 12-round encounter.
Mosley admitted having felt the brunt of that single punch.
"He surprised me with that power with that knockdown. That’s the most legitimate knockdown on me in a long time," said Mosley of the blow that knock him down only for the third time in his career. - RCJ, GMA News
