Hollywood actor and wrestling superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is placing his bet on Manny Pacquiao when the Filipino boxing icon takes on American boxer “Sugar” Shane Mosley on May 7.
The 38-year-old wrestler has joined the long list of Hollywood celebrities who are self admitted fans of Filipino champ.
“I'm a fan of both guys, I love Pacquiao, love Mosley too as well,” said Johnson. “[but] my nod goes to Pacquiao.”
"The Rock" is an ardent fan of the fight game and admits to have been following the boxing career of Pacquiao, whose boxing greatness has already transcended the sport.
“I've loved and admired him over the years,” said the 6-foot-6 Johnson, one of the blue-chip superstars of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
Johnson said he admires Pacquiao in and out of the boxing ring.
“The best thing about Manny Pacquiao, for me, is his humility… I think for any man who has had that amount of success… he still remains humble,” said the 250-pound behemoth.
Johnson takes particular notice of Pacquiao’s contribution in the Philippines.
He said the Filipino champion deserves recognition for giving back to the poor.
“I've seen him in a lot of interviews, I see how he gives back in the Philippines and it's very special and I love that about him,” said Johnson.
Pacquiao, the only 8-division boxing champion in the world, is set to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against Mosley on May 7.
The Filipino champion just recently wrapped up his training in the Philippines and is flying to Los Angeles on Saturday night to continue his preparations against Mosley.
After spending years in the professional wrestling business, Johnson broke into the Hollywood scene by becoming the highest paid actor ($5.5 million) in his first starring role in his first acting role.
His blockbuster movies included The Scorpion King, The Rundown, Walking Tall and Be Cool. Johnson’s most recent movie shown in the Philippines was Faster.
Johnson is currently preparing for the 27th edition of Wrestlemania, which is considered as the super bowl of professional wrestling.
