Rico Yan remembered

Nine years ago, the entertainment industry mourned the death of actor Rico Yan. He was among the most in demand actors of his generation.

In commemoration of his death anniversary this year, a mass was held at the ABS-CBN chapel on Tuesday officiated by Fr. Tito Caluag.

One of Yan’s career milestones was when he played the role of Gabriel in the ABS-CBN hit television series “Mula Sa Puso.”

And as the Kapamilya network launched the series remake on Monday, young actor JM De Guzman takes pride in playing the role first portrayed by the late actor.

In an interview with “Showbiz News Ngayon,” De Guzman revealed that all of them in the cast are doing their best for the show. He also thinks Yan is just around the corner to “show” his support.

“Lahat kami dito kahit sa staff hanggang sa director, buong puso naming pinapaganda kung paano namin i-deliver 'yung storya. Feeling ko nandito lang siya (Yan) para suportahan kami,” he said.

De Guzman also divulged that he’s elated to be working with Yan’s older brother Bobby.

“Iba lang 'yung feeling na nandito si Kuya Bob. Sinasabi niya sa akin na...kahit hindi ikaw si Rico, kapag sinasabi mo 'yung linya niya, naaalala ko pa rin siya,” he said.

To give respect to the late actor, De Guzman shared his plans to formally ask the Yan family for permission to visit his grave.

“Ang plano ko rin sana, formal na magpaalam sa kanila. Ipinaalam ko na rin kay Kuya Bob na gusto ko ring pumunta sa puntod [ni Sir Rico],” he said.
