Marquez vs. Judah a possibility

source: boxingnews24.com

WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KO’s) stays with Golden Boy Promotions one of the first fights he may get is a title challenge against IBF light welterweight champion Zab Judah (41-6, 28 KO’s).

The 37-year-old Marquez’s contract recently expired with Golden Boy and the thoughts are that Marquez will soon be signing with Top Rank promotions just so that he can get a third fight against Manny Pacquiao. However, Golden Boy will be trying their best to keep Marquez any way possible and one of those ways appears to be by matching him against the 33-year-old Judah.

For Marquez, he must be really licking his chops at the thought of facing Judah, who at this point in his career has a low work rate to go along with his weak chin. Judah’s whole game seems to be centered around looking to load up on one of his fast uppercuts. That money punch has worked for him in recent fights against Kaizer Mabuza and Jose Armando Santa Cruz, but failed him in his controversial 12 round decision over Lucas Matthysse last year.

Judah won’t be able to beat a fighter like Marquez with an uppercut. Marquez will nullify Judah’s uppercut and likely knock him out if he can catch up to him. Judah did a lot of running in his win over Matthysse last year. Judah would have to do even more against Marquez just to survive the fight. This would be an easy way for Marquez to capture one of the light welterweight titles and setting up a possible unification bout with Amir Khan if he can get by Timothy Bradley in the summer.
