A Filipina who was once a member of the household staff at the Royal Palace in the United Kingdom has reportedly been invited to attend the historic union between Prince William and his fiancée Kate Middleton.
Tess Dizon-Vega, Consul General of the Philippine Embassy in London, said Lillie Piccio received an invitation to the royal wedding.
“There are reports that a former member of the household staff at the Royal Palace, Ms. Lillie Piccio, has received an invitation because she was assigned to the household of the late Princess of Wales, Princess Diana,” said Tess Dizon-Vega, Consul General of the Philippine Embassy in London.
Vega, however, explained that Piccio has not come out or spoken publicly about her association with the Royal Family “because of certain restrictions and limitations”.
“There are reports that she has been invited to the ceremony,” she said in an interview with ANC's The World Tonight.
Vega said around 200 members of the government, parliament and the diplomatic corps, including Chargé d'affaires of the Philippine Embassy, Reynaldo Catapang, are expected to attend the ceremony at the Westminster Abbey.
Meanwhile, she added that some members of the Filipino community are discussing the possibility of making a donation to one of the charities specified by the engaged couple.
The couple has decided that, in lieu of gifts, the public is encouraged to make a donation to one of their favorite charities.
“In terms of gifts, the Royal Couple already said that they prefer that gifts be donated to their favorite charities and in the official website for the royal wedding, different charities of which the prince is a trustee or a patron of are listed. Members of the public, those who wish to take part in this historic occasion, are encouraged to donate to these charities,” said Vega. -- with ANC
