Mosley says he can KO with 1 punch

LAS VEGAS – Shane Mosley said Friday that the difference between him and fighters like Antonio Margarito or Miguel Cotto is that he can take a guy out with one punch.

Like the way he almost did to Floyd Mayweather last May when he caught his undefeated fellow American with a big right in the second round, and almost knocked him down.

Mosley, however, failed to keep the pressure on, dropping a unanimous decision.

He hopes to land the same big punch against Manny Pacquiao on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and he’s hoping as well that he can shock the world with a knockout win.

It doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m going for it (knockout),” Mosley told a couple of Filipino scribes at the Beverly Hills Hotel Friday, during a break with his photo shoot with Pacquiao.

The other day, Mosley told the media that he could end the fight quickly.

“I’m just stating that because of the type of punching power that I have. It’s not the power like Margarito or Cotto that needs to build up steam and then pretty soon knock the guys out
,” said the 39-year-old native of California.

I can hit the guy once and he can go to the ground. That’s what I meant by that,” he said.

But it’s so much easier said than done, especially when you’re up against Pacquiao, the reigning pound-for-pound champion who had gone undefeated in 13 fights over the last five years.

I know Pacquiao is a great fighter. He’s a warrior inside the ring, and it can go either way. But I really have the punching power that can end it quick,” he said.

Mosley will train for two months at the Big Bear Camp, starting on March 7, which is exactly two months before the fight.

He said it’s been at Big Bear, where he’d trained for all his fights since 1995, and where he bought a home 10 years ago, and transformed it into the boxing gym.

I’ll have two months,” he said.

I think that will be great. I’m doing good. I usually do eight weeks because I’m always in pretty good shape. I’m not the type of fighter that gets bloated and needs an extra week to lose weight.

I’m at exactly 160 now. I don’t worry about my weight. I’m a happy person. I’m an active person. I work out and play basketball and snowboard,” he said, in his boxing gear, like he’s ready to fight.
