Citing boxing as a dangerous sport, an official from the Department of Health urged Filipinos to pray for boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao's speedy recovery.
"His loss will not diminish the honor he gave our country," he added.
Pacquiao was taken to a hospital for tests after Juan Miguel Marquez knocked him out in the sixth round of their bout Sunday afternoon (Saturday evening US time) in Las Vegas.
In a statement issued on Malacañang's official website, Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda expressed similar sentiments. “Wala pong magbabago: Nananatili ang paghanga at pagsuporta ng sambayanang Pilipino kay Manny. Nawa’y sama-sama po nating ipanalangin ang panunumbalik ng kanyang sigla’t lakas,” he said.
Palace congratulates undercard winners
Malacañang also congratulated two Filipino boxers who won their assignments in the undercard bouts leading to the fight between Pacquiao and Marquez.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said cited the winners, Ernie Sanchez and Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr., for their victories.
"Nanalo sa undercard ang dalawang Pinoy, congratulations sa inyo," she said on government-run dzRB radio. — BM, GMA News
