Citing power fluctuations and bad weather conditions caused by Typhoon Pedring (Nesat), the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) will suspend operations for Tuesday starting noon.
Light Rail Transit Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera cited the danger of power fluctuations forcing the MRT-3 coaches to stop in between stations.
"Pag 12, pansamantalang titigil ng operation (ang MRT) dahil nagkaroon ng fluctuation at para sa kaligtasan ng pasahero (At noon, we will suspend the operation of the MRT because of power fluctuations. This is for the safety of our passengers)," Cabrera said in an interview on dzBB radio.
"Iniiwasan natin magkaroon ng situation ma-stranded ang tren sa pagitan ng dalawang stations (We do not want a situation where passengers will be stranded between two stations)," he added.
Earlier Tuesday, the LRTA suspended the operations of its LRT-1 and 2 lines due to a power supply cutoff.
The LRTA also had the MRT coaches run slowly due to the strong winds from "Pedring."
Cabrera said they are coordinating with the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) on when power can be restored.
The MRT-3 line runs along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and connects Quezon City (North EDSA) to Pasay City (Taft Avenue).
