MANILA, Philippines – Popular singers Apl.de.ap and Charice have expressed desire to perform with Arjohn Gilbert, the young Aeta YouTube singing sensation.
“I want to be the guy to first work with him. I’ll be jealous if somebody else first does, but ayos lang. I give him the best. If he needs help, I’m here,” Apl said about his cabalen in an interview on “TV Patrol,” Aug. 16.
The Filipino-American Black Eyed Peas member said he’s glad that Arjohn is gaining recognition for his innate singing talent.
Apart from Apl, another world-class singer has taken notice of the 14-year-old boy’s talent. Last Aug. 6, international singing sensation Charice extended an invitation to Arjohn to perform with her in a future show. Apparently, Charice had also seen and was impressed by a video of the latter singing Justin Bieber's hits.
“Arjohn, next time I do my own show in the Philippines, I would love for you to come and perform with me! youtube.com/watch?v=THKGIA…” she posted on her Twitter account (@OfficialCharice).
She then asked her fans, better known as Chasters, to find Arjohn to let him know that he will be part of the concert.
“@Yojan17 Let's find him, Chasters. Please find his FB, or whatever so we can contact him :)” she tweeted to one of her fans.
Major breaks
Dubbed as “The Next apl.de.ap,” and “Justin Bieber of the Philippines,” Arjohn was a recent guest in the late night show “Gandang Gabi Vice” where he performed songs like Justin’s "Baby," Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are" and Bugoy Drilon's "Paano Na Kaya?" This landed him a spot in the Top Trending Topics on Twitter.
But contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t the first time that Arjohn has been put on the spotlight.
"TV Patrol” reporter Marie Lozano noted that Arjohn—who has been trying to make a living selling fruits, crops and flutes in Pampanga—was discovered earlier by Apl. In fact, in one of the pop singer’s music videos, Arjohn had already portrayed the young Apl.
Also, unknown to many, Arjohn has already appeared on “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” some two years ago. Furthermore, in the same year, he was part of GMA-7’s “Wish Ko Lang,” where he was given a chance to audition in GMA's Talent Center.
Arjohn’s singing prowess was rediscovered after his recent videos went viral over YouTube, with users noting his “distinct accent” and “professional” singing voice.
