'Only lucky punch will save Mosley vs Pacquiao'

"Sugar" Shane Mosley will need all the luck he can muster if he even hopes to defeat 8-division boxing champ Manny "The Pacman" Pacquiao, a boxing analyst said Friday.

Speaking to radio dzMM, veteran sports writer and analyst Al Mendoza said Sunday's fight is such a mismatch that the possibility of Mosley scoring an upset against the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champ is a nigh impossibility.

"This is really a mismatch. He will be having a hard time landing that lucky punch especially with an opponent as fast as Pacquiao. Tsambang-tsamba na lang talaga. If Pacquiao loses, it's like all 79 Navy SEALs attacking Osama bin Laden suddenly dying," he said.

He said Pacquiao's blinding hand speed will easily overwhelm Mosley.

"When David Diaz fought Pacquiao, he said: 'What was the license plate of that truck that hit me? It was moving too fast.' You won't be able to see Pacquiao's license plate. How can you land a lucky punch now? He's in great condition, he trained really hard for the fight," he said.

Mendoza said he expects Mosley to try to hammer the Pacman in the first 3 rounds while he still has the strength. After that, he said it will be up to Manny when he wants to end the fight.

"Manny Pacquiao will decide when he wants to finish this. He can finish this in the fourth round. Mosley will try to finish the fight in the first 3 rounds while he still has the strength. Gitna at dulo mahina na yan. Pacquiao will take charge of the tempo of the fight. On the point of fan appeal, it would not look good if he finishes the fight too early and we all know Pacquiao likes to entertain his fans," he said.

He said that at 39, Mosley is already on his way to entering boxing's "home for the aged." He said Mosley won only 1 round in his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May 2010 while only managing a draw against Sergio Mora in September 2010.

On the other hand, Pacquiao at age 32 has not lost a fight since 2005 when he lost to Erik Morales. He noted that Muhammad Ali was 33 when he defeated Joe Frazier in the historic "Thrilla in Manila" on October 1, 1976.

"Pacquiao at 32 is at the peak of his physical prowess. Even his mind is at its peak. He's even a congressman so he is really using his brain. Kung matalino si Mosley, wala nang tatalo sa talino ni Pacquiao. Eight world titles in different divisions. He used his head, speed and strength to get it all. He's a complete fighter now," Mendoza said.
