MANILA, Philippines — In the wake of the killing of Osama bin Laden, the military sought Tuesday the public's help in finding Zulkifli Abdhir, a known international terrorist with a $5-million bounty on his head and believed hiding in Mindanao.
Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang, Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) spokesman, said the military has sought the help of the community for any information that may lead authorities to find Abdhir, reportedly the head of the Kumpulun Mujahidin Malaysia (KMM) terrorist organization and a member of Jemaah Islamiyah's (JI) Central Command.
Based on data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Abdhir “is a supplier to terrorist organizations and also conducts bomb-making training for terrorist organizations, specifically the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).”
The military said the ASG, a homegrown terror group based in Mindanao, is believed to have links with bin Laden's al Qaeda network.
The FBI said “Abdhir was indicted on August 1, 2007, in the United States District Court, Northern District of California, and charged with providing material support to terrorists, conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, contributing goods and services to a specially designated global terrorist, and making false statements.”
Cabangbang, citing reports, said Abdhir has been hiding in the Southern Philippines since August, 2003, the same year he was placed on the US State Department's most wanted list.
A Malaysian citizen, Abdhir stands 168 cm, weighs 55 kg, has a slim build. He has black hair and brown eyes.
The wanted fugitive has been known to go by the aliases of “Marwan, Zulkifli Abd Hir” and “Zulkifli Bin Abdul Hir”.
Cabangbang said the US FBI warns that Abdhir is considered armed and dangerous and his presence in the Southern Philippines represents one of the leading destabilizing elements for the public.
