
MANILA, Philippines – Efren "Bata" Reyes’ amazing run in the 2011 US Open 10-Ball Championship came to an end as he suffered back-to-back losses at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday (Saturday in Manila).
Reyes, former World Pool-Billiards Association (WPA) 9-Ball and 8-Ball champion, lost to Jonathan Pinegar of the US in the fifth round of the winners' bracket.
This was followed by another loss to David Alcaide of Spain in a do-or-die match in the losers’ bracket.
The ‘Lion’ exits
After 3 straight wins in the losers’ bracket against Matt Krah, Jesse Engel and Corey Harper of the US, Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan suffered a loss against 2008 World Ten-Ball kingpin Darren Appleton of Great Britain.
Pagulayan, a former WPA 9-Ball champion, Reyes and fellow Filipinos Jose "Amang" Parica and Jun Almoite were all eliminated. – By Marlon Bernardino
