Vic, Bea pull great network crossover

MANILA, Philippines -- Just a thought: Nobody has the power to make things perfect, but everyone is given countless chances to make things right.

Great network crossover: Audiences were at once surprised and elated seeing Vic Sotto guesting on several ABS-CBN programs (“ASAP,” “The Buzz”) one weekend recently.

They felt the same way when they spotted Bea Alonzo making the great crossover to GMA studios, promoting her first movie with Mr. Sotto on “Eat Bulaga,” no less.

The unusual star sightings on rival networks 2 and 7 could play out to be an ideal scenario if and when rival networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7 smoothen their act together and work for the common good of TV audiences.

Unfortunately, such strange “sightings” are merely flitting and temporary, propped up only by an unlikely movie partnership between Vic Sotto’s M-Zet Films and ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema.

Vic and Bea’s movie, the comedy, “Pak Pak, My Dr. Kwak,” opened on Black Saturday, April 23.

The crossover from competing networks of two of their biggest stars gave the film an added spark in publicity. That, and constant talk that Vic has always been so lucky that even in his mid-50s, he can still look credible to partner with someone like Bea, who’s only in her early 20s.

Vic is, by far, one of the most successful crossover artists. He airs programs on both 7 and 5 (“My Darling Aswang,” “Laugh or Lose”) and now, co-produces a movie with channel 2’s movie arm. Vic is, of course, an exception to the rule, being the reigning King of Comedy.

What's hot, what's not: KC Concepcion reveals more about her relationship with Piolo Pascual (including some never-before-shared tidbits on how they got together plus the first time they met) in a special 24-page spread on the actress in the May issue of Star Studio magazine.

Featuring photographs by KC’s good friend Mark Nicdao, the magazine covers the most treasured possessions and obsessions of your favorite stars.

Meanwhile, The Buzz magazine gives readers the lowdown on the reconciliation between Sarah Geronimo and Cristine Reyes. The two young actresses recently figured in a disagreement over common man, Rayver Cruz. Meanwhile, The Buzz also wonders if it’s true Kris Aquino is at a disadvantage over the division of property between herself and separated husband, James Yap.

The University of the Philippines Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts (DSCTA) is conducting its annual Extramural Program for children, teens, adults and professionals from May 2 to May 6. The 10-hour module will be held for two hours every day.

The modules offered are as follows: Voice and Diction, Performance, Presentational Skills and Speech for the Professionals and Business People.
