PFF won't give free tickets for home game

MANILA, PhilippinesUnlike the Azkals’ last home game in Bacolod City, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) will not offer free tickets to the public when the team hosts Sri Lanka in their FIFA World Cup 2014 Asian Qualifiers first round tie on July 3.

PFF president Mariano Araneta made the announcement yesterday on the website of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), explaining the federation needs the money to stage the match.

Last February, during the first leg of the Azkals’ AFC Challenge Cup playoffs with Mongolia, the PFF opened up a large portion of the Panaad Stadium to the public, distributing some 10,000 tickets for free. President Aquino released P3 million for that particular hosting.

But with subsidy from the government or the International Football Federation still uncertain, the PFF has decided to charge each spectator this time.

We need to raise funds to cover for the expenses of hosting the event, including rental of the field,” Araneta explained in the AFF website.

The Azkals will first play Sri Lanka in the latter’s turf on June 28 for their away match before heading back home for the second leg set five days later. The PFF is looking at decades-old Rizal Memorial as possible venue for the home match, with the Panaad pitch as the other candidate site.
