Alaska and Air21 make one final push in their quarterfinal showdown, both determined to knock each other out and get a place in the 2011 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Final Four.
The Aces and the Express clash in the 5 p.m. opener of a double knockout Wednesday night determining the two teams that join Talk n Text and Smart Gilas in the semifinals.
It’s a key card fittingly falling on the “PBA 36th Anniversary Week.”
It’s a momentous occasion where both the Aces and the Express hope to come out triumphant.
The Aces have the well-knit unit used to playing this kind of game but the Express, with their new recruits, are getting together in the right time and setting out for this game riding the great desire to score a breakthrough feat.
Both expect a battle and each one is hopeful to get the right to challenge the Tropang Texters in the best-of-five semifinals.
Alaska, which is right behind San Miguel Beer as the winningest active ball clubs in the league, is aching to stay in the hunt for a second championship in the last hree conferences.
Air21, on the other hand, is determined to stay in further contention as it hopes to finally make a championship run.
The Express’ best finish in franchise history was second behind the Barangay Ginebra Kings in the 2008 Fiesta Conference. The last time it made the semifinals was in the same conference the following year.
The Express forced the KO match versus the Aces following a 94-84 win Sunday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Having survived three KO games already made the Express believe they’re destined to do good in the tourney.
Import Alpha Bangura vowed they would do their best to get that.
“We want to win; that’s the bottom line,” said Bangura, who could be a top choice for the Best Import award if they reach the semis.
That’s also the bottom line for Alaska, though. (SB)
