Celebrity friends and colleagues flocked to the screening of the first Robin Padilla-Mariel Rodriguez starrer, “Tum, My Pledge of Love.”
Among the attendees of the special screening held at Powerplant Mall in Makati was actress-host Toni Gonzaga, who recently patched things up with BFF Rodriguez.
“Lahat ng premiere nights ko, concerts ko, nandun si Mariel. Kaya nararapat naman na suportahan ko siya sa kanyang first-ever love story na pelikula,” Gonzaga related in an interview with PEP and Cinema News dated March 15. Gonzaga arrived with her younger sister, Alex.
She said that Rodriguez was even shy to ask her to come that she had to tell the latter, “Ano ba, walang problema. Pupunta talaga ako.”
"Kaya lang ako na-late ngayon kasi I came from a shooting, Star Cinema movie with Ate Uge [Eugene Domingo]. I'm very thankful nga kay Direk Joey Reyes kasi he also adjusted, kasi nag-request ako.
“Sabi ko, baka puwedeng i-move 'yung shoot, hindi pumayag si Direk Joey. Sabi niya, bigyan na lang daw niya ako ng cut-off. Ayun 7:30 p.m. — pak, I made it," she added.
Comedienne Pokwang also graced the event, gaining extra attention from everyone as she arrived in full traditional Indian garb.
“Ay hindi ko alam na may premiere night! Napadaan [lang] ako,” she said, laughing, in an interview aired by TV Patrol, also on Tuesday.
“Bata pa ko talagang favorite ko ['yung] 'Tum and Jerry'," she joked, a play on the title of the famous cat-and-mouse cartoon "Tom and Jerry."
Other personalities who were spotted at the event were Rodriguez's and Gonzaga’s other BFF Bianca Gonzales, “Juanita Banana” lead Bianca Manalo, Empress Schuck, Mark Gil, Optical Media Board Chair Ronnie Ricketts, ABS-CBN anchor Julius Babao and wife Tintin.
Padilla’s mother, Eva Cariño, and Rodriguez’s grandparents were also there to show their support to the couple.
Prior to the screening, Padilla and Rodriguez faced the media to express their pride and excitement about the public seeing the movie directed by Padilla, and to thank their guests.
“We would like to thank all of you for being here tonight. We are just really overwhelmed. It means so much to me, so much to Robin. Thank you so much,” Rodriguez was quoted as saying in another report by abs-cbnnews.com on Tuesday.
Padilla added that Rodriguez was his inspiration in making the movie.
On the other hand, Padilla’s daughter Queenie divulged that aside from the love angle, “Talagang makikita niyo dito sa pelikulang ito… may action, may puso rin ang story. Sana po magustuhan niyo.”
Some of the cast members who attended the screening were Ejay Falcon, Bing Loyzaga and Eddie Garcia
Written and directed by Padilla, “Tum, My Pledge of Love” will screen in local cinemas beginning April 6.
