MANILA, Philippines – Iconic villain Paquito Diaz (Francisco Bustillos Diaz in real life) passed away Thursday, March 3, due to complications of pneumonia.
“Ang isa po sa pinakamahusay at pinakamamahal nating artista, character actor Paquito Diaz, joined the Lord, pumanaw na po. Ang mga plano ng pamilya ay ia-announce, ibabahagi po natin sa nagmamahal na publiko in the next few days. Maaaring sa 'The Buzz' o bukas ay ipaalam natin sa sambayanan ang mga plano ng pamilya. Ang aming taos-pusong pakikiramay sa pamilya ng pumanaw na Paquito Diaz,” Boy Abunda said on his entertainment news program on March 3.
In a report made by a local news website, it said that Diaz’s daughter Joanna Diaz-Gallent confirmed the death of her father through a text message she sent to Boyet Sison, ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) anchor.
“Yes my friend, it's true, I've been in Bicol since Tuesday, and indeed, Dad has passed on," Gallent's message read.
The 73 year-old actor who mostly appeared in the late Fernando Poe, Jr.'s movies, passed away at 8:20 p.m. in his home in Daraga, Albay.
In the Feb. 8 episode of “SNN”, the actor’s son, Joko Diaz, related he received bad news from his mom.
“I got a call from my mom na, 'You have to bring dad sa hospital.' So, ngayon nasa ICU si dad,” Joko shared.
He was told by his mom that his dad’s condition was deteriorating then.
“Matagal ko nang hinanda ‘yung sarili ko, eh," Joko said. "Pero siyempre nu’ng natanggap ko ‘yung balita, siyempre medyo naano rin ako... nahihirapan akong analyze-in ‘yung sitwasyon. Si daddy kasi ‘yan, eh. Iba... daddy ko kasi, alam mo ‘yon? Siyempre iba ‘yung papa’no ako brining-up ng dad ko. I’m very proud of him. I’m trying to give the best medical treatment for him.”
A week prior, Diaz was wrongly reported by a tabloid to have died already. The report shocked the actor’s family and Gallents had to correct the news item.

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino actor Paquito Diaz, best known for playing villain in most Filipino movies, has passed away. He was 73.
The actor passed away in their home in Daraga, Albay Thursday afternoon after he experienced difficulty breathing. Prior to that, Diaz was confined at the Estevez Memorial Hospital.
Diaz is best remembered playing opposite the likes of the late Fernando Poe Jr. He is the father of actor Joko Diaz and actress Cheska Diaz.
Diaz suffered a stroke in 2004 and had major brain surgery which practically ate up his savings. It was at this point that his body grew weaker and his health deteriorated.
Unofficial news about his death hit the news last week. However, it was only this Thursday that his wife Nena and daughter Joanna Diaz-Gallent confirmed and relayed the sad news.
