Freddie Roach is going to have dinner with Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday to “talk about the gameplan” for the May 7 clash with Shane Mosley.
Hours after arriving in Manila from Los Angeles Tuesday morning, Roach was happy to hear that everything seems to be in place for the start of training camp in Baguio City next week.
Team Pacquiao leaves for the City of Pines this Sunday for the start of the buildup for the Mosley showdown which will be for Pacquiao’s World Boxing Organization welterweight crown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
But before proceeding to Baguio, Roach and Pacquiao will spend some time in the gym somewhere in Metro Manila beginning Thursday for some pre-conditioning routine.
Roach arrived via Philippine Airlines with conditioning coach Alex Ariza as well as British world super-lightweight champion Amir Khan and his new fitness instructor.
Sparmates Shawn Porter and David Rodela had to be left behind but they’re expected to come in next week “since sparring with Pacquiao doesn’t take place until after two weeks of training,” said Roach.
Roach, who turned 51 on March 5, is hoping that not too many people will flock to see Pacquiao train this time.
“I want lesser distractions this time,” said Roach, who has been Pacquiao’s trainer since mid-2001.
The Baguio leg will last until the first week or early-second week of April and Pacquiao will bring his training to the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood for the final and most crucial stage of the preparations.
