MANILA, Philippines – Former PBA Commissioner Rodrigo “Rudy” Salud has reprotedly passed away at the age of 72. Salud is the father of current PBA chief Atty. Chito Salud.
The late commissioner Salud handled the Professional Basketball Association from 1988 to 1992 and also acted as the secretary general of the World Boxing Council.
If you will recall, Atty. Chito Salud had to attend to his ailing father last week.
This was one reason why he was not able to decide immediately on the revised trade between Air21 and San Miguel Beer since Atty. Salud was on leave.
The approved trade saw San Miguel get top rookies Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Noy Baclao and Rey Guevarra for veterans Dondon Hontiveros, Danny Seigle, Dorian Pena and Paul Artadi.
All players have already played their first games for their respective teams.
The late PBA commissioner Salud died at around 12:30 p.m. today and was supposed to turn 73 this coming Sunday, March 13, 2011.
The Manila Bulletin family would like to extend their condolences to the family of the late sportsman Rudy Salud.
