MANILA, Philippines – B-Meg bounced back in style, routing the hapless Air21 Express team, 121-92 in the first game of the PBA Commissioners Cup held at the Cuneta Astrodome.
James Yap and KG Canaleta led the spirited charge of the Llamados, taking advantage of a seemingly off-form Air21 team which bid adieu to its top three rookies (Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Nonoy Baclao and Rey Guevarra) after PBA Commissioner Atty. Chito Salud approved the trade between the Express and the San Miguel Beermen.
In exchange, the Express will be getting championship-rich veterans in Danny Seigle, Dondon Hontiveros, Dorian Pena and Paul Artadi.
Adding to the woes of the Air21 team was the foul-trouble that import Jeremy Robinson got himself into. Robinson finished the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Canaleta led the Llamados onslaught, burning the hoops for 28 points while James Yap chipped in 22 points.
B-Meg import Sharmani Spears had a woeful game for the Llamados, contributing only 8 points for the Llamados’ cause.
For the Express, parting Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Jay-R Reyes made 17 points each to lead their team.
In the second game, Talk ‘N Text drubbed the Powerade Tigers, 94-80 to notch their first their win after bowing to the Smart Gilas team the last time around. The Tigers dropped to 1-2 in the standings.
