10-year-old best swimmer in PSL meet


Ten-year-old Sean Terrance Zamora emerged as the most bemedalled swimmer in the Diliman Preparatory School-Philippine Swimming League age group swimming meet yesterday at the DPS Swimming Center on Fairview, Quezon City.

Zamora won in the 50-meter events of the butterfly (35.03 sec), freestyle (32.47), backstroke (38.41) and breaststroke (44.28) and the 100m freestyle (1:12.6) to emerge as the most outstanding swimmer in the event also serving as the ninth leg of the PSL swimming circuit.

The competition was attended by swimmers from Bohol, Cebu, Batangas, Cavite, Olongapo, Lucena, Bataan, Taguig, Pasay and NCR.

Skyler Claveria was the best swimmer in the 11-12 boys category with victories in the 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke, the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

The University of the Philippines varsity team and Mapua also attended the meet sponsored by DPS president and chief executive officer and former Sen. Nikki Coseteng and supported by Manny de Guzman of Avalon Pools.

Loren Dale Echavez from Cebu City clocked a stunning 27.13 seconds in the 50m freestyle.

The other outstanding swimmers were (boys) Zachy Lacea (6 years), Geoffrey James Liberato (7-8), Alfred Karl Maglabe (13-14), Kevin Claveria (15-17) and (girls) Dominique Ramirez (6 years), Allyssa Magpantay (7-8), Anna Beatriz Gomez (9-10), Maria Siso (11-12), Nicole Tan (13-14), and Cordero sisters Delia Angela and Denjylie (15-17).

PSL president and founder Susan Papa said the swimmers are making progress in their clockings through the monthly PSL competitions.

August Bonilla, Dale’s coach who came all the way to Manila for the competition, said the PSL swimming program is a big boost to the development of age group swimmers.

I’m happy to see that the grassroots development program of PSL is a success,” said Bonilla.
