Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play to Verizon

Something is coming to the Superbowl on Sunday the 13th, and MB Technews will most probably get its hands on this “something” on the same date -- barring delivery hitches.

Sony Ericsson has finally made official its new creation for the tech-crazies out there, putting more thrill on the coming sporting event with the full revelation on Sunday. Last we heard at Technews, out “shipment” is on its way to the lab, too.

In the absence of official words from Sony Ericsson, the XPERIA Play is a large 4” LCD screen of FWVGA resolution (854 x 480 pixels). Major specs count a 1GHz Qualcomm CPU with the Adreno 205 GPU and 512 MB of RAM.

It is armed with a 5-megapixel that is fully capable of recording 720p videos. There’s also a microUSB port and a noise-cancelation second microphone available on the device.

The 1500 mAh battery powers the Android 2.3 Gingerbread in the XPERIA Play.

The XPERIA Play has created quite a web buzz, and why not? It’s not everyday that you stumble on a device also dubbed as the PlayStation phone or Zeus.

It will have a slide out a la PSP with controls including optical analog ‘sticks’ and two shoulder buttons. The Xperia Play will have a 5MP camera and be powered by Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon processor.

From our source overseas, these are what we’ve gathered about “the Play.”

Powered by a Qualcomm MSM8655 chipset and coupled with an Adreno 205 GPU plus the Gingerbread and the 512MB of RAM make this a gamer’s precious device.

There are four shiny Android soft keys below the screen -- back, menu, home, and search.

The buttons on the outside include the tiny power button at the top right corner, and the volume rocker right between the two gamepad triggers on the right.

The second mic above the LED flash is for noise cancellation. Push the screen upwards to about half way and uncover the PlayStation DualShock-style gamepad.

The sort filter in the horizontal-scrolling apps menu allows custom sorting, sort by alphabets, sort by usage frequency, and sort by installation time.
