GMA: Kapuso stars shine in Korea

Two of today’s brightest talents, Aljur Abrenica and Frencheska Farr, have found their stars shining as far as Korea after they were recently recognized at the 2011 Asia Model Festival Awards.

Both received the coveted Model Star Award citations which once again emphasized their current status as celebrities being looked up to by the youth.

The prestigious feat is a crowning jewel for both Aljur and Frencheska, being on top of their game at the moment. The former has become the country’s number one hunk following the immediate success of his take on “Machete” which for many is the new millennium’s definitive portrayal of the famed Pablo Gomez-created character. The latter, on the other hand, has transformed into one of today’s most visible singers after her ground-breaking stint as lead star of the country’s first full-length musical “Emir.”

Just to illustrate how big-time the Awards night held at the Olympic Hall of Korea’s Olympic Park was, also in attendance were Jerry Yan of “Meteor Garden” and Kwon Sang Woo (“Cholo”) of “Stairway To Heaven,” both award-recipients, too. Korean stars and singers were also present comprising the bulk of the attendees invited from around 13 countries.

Nakapagpa-picture pa si Frencheska kay Jerry Yan,” recalled Jenny Donato of GMA Artist Center who was on hand to witness such a triumphant moment for the said Kapuso stars.

Guesting alongside other K-pop artists, Frencheska performed a number in a separate event dubbed “New Face Model Contest.” There she sang “Everytime,” the theme song to the “Tween Hearts” series currently being aired here. Koreans, the talented breed behind the K-Pop phenomenon, turned out very impressed hearing and seeing the young Pinay performing.

At the same gathering where GMAAC head Ida Henares was a presentor, Suzuki Sadatsugu, a representative (along with Alexies McFarland) sent by GMAAC to participate in the contest, won the Most Popular award. Thus, with both events sandwiched in a three-day stretch from Jan. 19 to 21, the Kapuso delegates reaped more than enough awards, making the Korean trip extra meaningful.

The tandem triumph of Aljur-Frencheska calls back to mind the duo of Rhian Ramos and Victor Aliwalas who were the awardees for 2009 as well as Iza Calzado and Robbie Manangquil for 2007.

Henares, who also served as presentor at the Asia Model Festival awards for the best child model category, has reiterated her great appreciation over the recognition and honor bestowed upon the Kapuso stars. “We are really delighted to be part of this yearly gathering of artists from 13 countries. The Festival organizers are very appreciative of our support. We hope our artists will keep on contributing greatly to their vision of rich cultural exchange via this festival.”
